Restaurant Catering Fairfield Lobster Seafood Take Out Kid Friendly Lobster Post: Casual Fresh Seafood in Fairfield Sarah Green November 30, 2014 Two words: LOBSTER FRIES. No...Really! If you want to cozy up to some delicious and decadent comfort food, get your claws over to the LOBSTER POST at 222 Post Road in Fairfield. Opened and owned by Jack Jagetic and now run by our man, Scotty and chef Mel, the LOBSTER POST offers fresh, tasty and unpretentious fare that both adults and children will devour. As we walked in the doors of the simple yet charming little jaunt with a beach town vibe, we were treated to a sample of piping hot LOBSTER BISQUE. Seasoned to perfection with a tiny bit of heat at the end of the gulp, this soup was excellent. Not too creamy, and with a touch of sherry wine, the lobster flavor was allowed to blossom. We sat, we ordered, all was right with the world. On the agenda: The Lobster Roll was simple and made the way I like it - without mayonnaise. Pure chunks of fresh lobster meat (all seafood brought in daily, lobsters-every other day) with a touch of parsley served on a plain, lightly toasted (nothing special about the bread) roll, made this my kinda "yum." Some may prefer their lobster rolls with mayo, celery and/or scallion - but for me, those flavors tend to overpower the lobster and its delicate sweetness. I would say that though lobsters are available all year, there is something to be said for the summer lobsters as I think their meat is more tender and marginally richer in flavor. But this was a solid roll and a winner for me, served with simple but tasty, red cabbage slaw. Also well prepared were the FRIED WHOLE BELLY CLAMS. Succulent and very sweet and breaded to perfection, these bellies were excellent. The KILLER order of the day was, definitely, the LOBSTER FRIES! Basically a version of POUTINE (a French-Canadian dish consisting of fries served with gravy and cheese curds), this dish was most definitely "eat-till-you-groan" awesome. I would have preferred the fries a bit crispier, but my guess is that once the LOBSTER/GOUDA tsunami hits, the degree to which the potatoes are fried is moot. With just enough sauce so as not to overwhelm, the chefs at the LOBSTER POST know what they are doing. The proportion of sauce to fry is just right and makes this dish a total winner. (Also on the menu was LOBSTER MAC and CHEESE - a MUST ORDERfor our next visit, as we've heard very good things). SMASHED AVOCADO was next up and it was, purely and simply (shocking, I know) smashed avocado. It could have used a tad more salt and I adorned mine with some hot sauce for extra flavor, but this was actually a great side dish and made us feel just a tad healthier. We particularly enjoyed the made to order home made potato chips for dipping. The FISH TACO came to the table, wrapped in faux newspaper with ripe avocado slices on top. Served in a (slightly disappointing) soft tortilla shell the cod was tender and flaky, fried with a light, panko crust. It was a good dish, but not outstanding. The only dish we felt was not quite up to par was the SHRIMP ROLL. The shrimp were tender and not overcooked and the FRESH CORN SALSA was crunchy and delicious with plenty of fresh, sweet peppers. The roll had a nice CHIPOTLE smokiness throughout but somehow, this dish was very salty. There were plenty of items on the menu that we didn't get to at this first visit. The FRESH FISH SANDWICH sounds promising with crunchy cod and house-made aioli served on a grilled, pretzel bun. And my next visit will certainly include the LOBSTER DINNER - plain and simple - with a steamed Maine lobster, corn on the cob and slaw. And as for the kids, picky or not, there are options - Panko crusted fish sticks or chicken fingers, organic grilled hot dogs and even sliders with fries.CHEF SCOTT promised us that he and CHEF MEL are putting NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER on the menu, asap, and that they are working on other, more winter-oriented choices that will be added very soon. Changin' up the menu, capt'n. Ahoy!Lobster Post 222 Post Road, Fairfield. 203.955.1586Tues/Sat - 11:30- 9:00 pm Sun - 12-7 pmClosed Monday
