EGG-citing News: The Tasty Yolk Storefront Opens in Black Rock + Now Serving Lunch!

I pose this question to you…Is there anything better than a well executed egg sandwich in the wee hours of the morning (or really any time of day)? A nice runny yolk…smoky bacon…buttery Parker House roll….drooling yet? Well, for lovers of all things egg sandwich, we’ve got some egg-citing news. The crave-worthy egg sandwich food truck, The Tasty Yolk, has officially opened the doors to their NEW storefront location at 2992 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport TODAY! No longer will hungry diners have to exclusively seek out one of their three Fairfield County mobile breakfast sandwich delivery vehicles. Chef Eric Felitto’s (Food Network Chopped Champion) award winning menu will be available 6 days a week, Tuesday through Sunday. P.S. MSN awarded The Tasty Yolk one of "America's 100 Best Food Trucks." Oh, and did I mention they have added a FULL LUNCH MENU to the lineup?? Yup…We’re pumped.

So, what exactly is on the menu at the new spot? CTbites got a sneak peek at the new digs and the new menu just hours before the big reveal. No worries. All of your favorite breakfast sandwiches will be available, including The Banker (house made brisket, spicy aioli and 2 eggs) as well as The Tasty (featuring chorizo from Fairfield’s Custom Meats), but NOW you can add on a full menu of Protein Extras to amp up your sammy.

These range from Chef Felitto’s delicious brisket, to roasted turkey, and pulled pork. Another huge breakfast bonus resulting from the larger kitchen is the addition of The Yolk’s ridiculously good, Berry Tasty Buttermilk Pancakes with wild berry sauce, citrus marscapone and bacon bits. There are no words.

And then there is lunch. Tasty Yolk co-owner, Michael Bertanza, says, “For three years, our customers have been asking us to serve lunch. If it wasn’t for the Black Rock community we could never have done this.“ The Yolk has heard their guests, and is rewarding them with a full menu of lunch sandwiches, many of which have been culled from the “specials ” greatest hits over the past few years.

These include The SS Cassidy (named after the principal at the Black Rock School), and featuring Brisket, Cheddar and onion-pepper jam. There is an absolutely luscious moist buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with vinegar-y pickled slaw and Korean BBQ sauce. For burger fans, they’ve got The Porch Burger with their secret “special sauce,” and three different griddled burritos, including a veggie option. They have even thoughtfully included Gluten-Free bread.

As The Tasty Yolk team has young kids of their own (one of whom we enjoyed hanging with the day of the shoot), kids have not been forgotten on the new menu. Children, young and old, will be quite pleased to find their “Little Yolkies” section with all the finger food greatest hits: Chicken Bites, Quesadilla, Scrambled Eggs & Bacon, and Chocolate Chip Pancakes are all happening here.

Bertanza says” We tried to maintain the look and feel of the trucks in the storefront.” The locations features counters with seating for roughly 20, but the thrust of The Yolk’s business will be take-out. The price point is right on the money. Sandwiches range from $5 to $9, with the burger topping the menu at $10. This is incredibly reasonable given the level of care and the quality of the ingredients that go into this menu.

I have always liked the fact that guests can text in their orders to The Yolk and pick up at the trucks. The same will be true for the storefront, and the numbers will remain the same for easy ordering. Additionally, the storefront and larger kitchen opens up The Tasty Yolk’s catering business beyond breakfast. Hit them up for your next event. But, like I said…Is there ever a bad time for an egg sandwich??
