LUXE Modern Wine & Cocktails in Westport is focusing on mixology education this fall and winter just in time to get your bar fully stocked and your skills sharpened for the holiday entertaining to come. I recently stopped by there to test of a cocktail or two myself and fell in love with both the process and the presentation of their newest cocktail, the Last Man Standing. It drank like a swift kick to the curb, followed by a warm and apologetic embrace. We've been friends ever since. The Last Man Standing is a heady combination of Willet Rye, Old Olo Rosso Sherry and Benedictine, stirred together with a large cube of ice and served in a smoked brandy snifter, garnished with a lemon peel that has been soaking in allspice dram (they originally tested this with a single malt scotch soak, making it a bit peatier).

Owned by former technology executive Robert Reilly with bartender Jamie McGowan helping to hold down the fort, LUXE has filled the need in Westport for that all important pre and post dinner drinks spot. Reilly has always appreciated wine, make his own blend at home, but it was a book by his wife that sparked a love of cocktails. The NOLA Ramos Gin Fizz in the "The Modern Mixologist" is responsible for what Reilly's "discovery that what I love about LUXE is bringing the cocktail culture to Westport and making cocktails that exceed peoples expectations."

Convening in sleek and smartly designed bar with friends or grabbing a glass of wine with a plate of charcuterie and cheese, LUXE's strength is its thoughtful selections of wine (both by the glass and bottles) and growing list of inventive cocktails. 

Also...don't miss Champagne and Charcuterie event during Westport Foodie Fest on Saturday 10/27 from 5-7 at LUXE.  A thrilling demo of Champagne Sabering will be presented along with tasting of French champagnes from Louis Roederer!
