Blue Lemon @ Westport Farmers' Mkt June 7 CTbites Team June 05, 2012 It’s official, the Westport Farmers’ Market is in full swing and you don’t want to miss a thing! School’s beginning to wind down, the days are getting longer, and summer is rapidly approaching. If your house is anything like mine, with the heat comes the challenge of finding something cool and refreshing for dinner. Look no further…. this Thursday, June 7th Bryan Malcarney, Chef and Owner of The Blue Lemon in Westport will be whipping up a cool Caribbean gazpacho for all to sample at the Westport Farmers’ Market. This cold soup is simple yet delicious and always a market favorite. Best of all, the majority, if not all of the ingredients, can be found at the market. Therefore, if you make your way to the Market this Thursday (which I highly recommend) you will not only leave with your taste buds singing, but with dinner practically done! Malcarney, a regular at the Market, believes in using fresh, local ingredients as inspiration for creating the best possible dishes. This Thursday he plans to arrive early to peruse the stands until he finds something that catches his eye. From there, Malcarney will make yet another delicious concoction using ingredients found at the Market that morning. Malcarney will be making this mystery dish shortly after his arrival and samples will be available throughout the day! Malcarney is a strong advocate of supporting local farms and believes in regularly using ingredients from the Market at The Blue Lemon. In the past, Malcarney has created a market special that he offers on Thursday evenings in response to what he discovered that day. Though they don’t offer a market special at the moment, Malcarney promises that as they settle into summer it is something they hope to start up again. In the meantime, Blue Lemon and Malcarney’s other restaurant, Rory’s in Darien, have an exciting few weeks coming up! Blue Lemon is featuring a Paella Wine Dinner, June 13th and Rory’s has their annual Roots, Rock, and Reggae Festival this coming Sunday, June 10th from 12-7 with great music, food, and fun (if you’d like more information you can contact mybluelemon@aol.com or stay tuned for details)! Hope to see you all at the market!
