Danbury Darien Fairfield Norwalk Trumbull Westport New Canaan Best of CT Burgers Best Bar Burgers in Fairfield County: 2014 Edition Jeff "jfood" Schlesinger May 19, 2014 May is National Burger Month and it’s that time of year again for CTbites to unveil its “Best Bar Burgers of Fairfield County.” The last twelve months brought us several suggestions to try and I tried many of these additional locations. The 2014 list included some outstanding bars and haunts that served delicious burgers, so good in fact that only one newcomer was as delicious. (See complete list below)Not only was this an outstanding burger, but it earned my top spot as the Best Bar Burger in Fairfield County. Bick’s Burgers & Fries – 2014 Best Bar Burger in Fairfield County Located at 14 Ives Street in Danbury, Bick’s Burgers & Fries creates one incredibly delicious burger. The meat delivers a deep, beefy flavor, the grind is loose and the patty is perfectly prepared with a char on the exterior and medium-rare on the interior. The onions are buttery soft and sweet, delicious, and the thick-cut bacon adds just a touch of saltiness without overwhelming the meat. The melted cheese is creamy and the brioche brings great buttery flavor. The umami ketchup delivers a wonderful earthiness to the burger. The French fries are hand-cut on the premises and are fantastic. They are crisp on the outside and soft and moist on the interior and the flavors are excellent. No ketchup required to enjoy these fries. The sweet potato fries are very good, but compared to the regulars, well, I would order a full order of the regulars. If you want to add spice, order the Cactus ketchup, it has a great kick.Bick's Burgers & Fries (Danbury) Parallel Post (Trumbull) The “Double Burger” includes seven ounces of grass-fed beef, topped with Vermont cheddar cheese, Benton bacon and served on brioche bun. The meat is delicious, the Cheddar is just sharp enough to complement and the bacon adds great saltiness and smokiness to the burger.Super Duper Weenie (Fairfield) The “Natural” burger is 6 ounces of delicious chuck and sirloin and the bacon and cheese are excellent additions. You may also want to try one of the house-made toppings.Black Duck (Westport) This burger is six ounces of handcrafted 80-20 Angus, frizzled onions and cheese. It is rich in flavor and the frizzled onions are fantastic.Cherry Street East (New Canaan) The “Vermonster” is served on an English muffin with bacon and sharp Cheddar cheese. The 8-ounce burger reminds me of the old-fashioned soda shop burgers and the Cheddar cheese and bacon add great flavor. The English muffin is a great addition and adds just a little bit of tang.Burgers Shakes & Fries (Byram / Darien) A single with bacon, American cheese and fried onions is delicious. The meat is flavorful, the bacon and cheese adds saltiness and creaminess, respectively and the grilled onions are the best in the area. I love the buttered and grilled toast as the “bun.”Dinosaur BBQ (Stamford) The “Dino Burger Deluxe” is 6 ounces of Angus beef topped with BBQ caramelized onions, melted cheddar cheese, tomato, house-cured pickles and BBQ mayo. The patty is smoky, the onions a little pungent and the BBQ mayo adds just a touch of spice.Barnum Publick House (Bridgeport) The “Barnum Burger” is 100% Angus beef with lettuce, tomato, Special Sauce on an English muffin with Cheddar cheese and bacon. The patty is moist and flavorful, the basic bacon adds a little saltiness and the cheese is nicely melted.B.J. Ryan’s Pub (Norwalk) The B.J. Ryan Burger is delicious; a simple burger served on a soft roll with a slice of American cheese. These all set the bar very high last year and it was difficult to find any place that could crack onto this list. Congratulations to Bick’s Burgers & Fries for not only making the list but receiving the CTbites Best Bar Burger in Fairfield County.
