Weekly Nibble: CT Food Event & Happenings For May 16-22

Mill Street Bar & Table now serves LUNCH from 11am-2pm on Thursdays and Fridays.  Also, $1 Stella Mar Oysters (raw or grilled) will be featured on weekdays from 11am-6pm and weekends 2-6pm.

American Craft Beer Week kicks off on May 16 and lasts through the 22.  Cask Republic South Norwalk is starting the week with a New England Brewing Company Tap Takeover on May 16 at 6pm.  There will be a number of NEBCO beers… including the G-Bot!  

Barcelona Fairfield invites you to a night of “Grilling Outside, Family-style” on May 16 from 7-9pm.  They’ll be bringing out the grill for a family-style meal on the patio, featuring suckling pig and fresh spring vegetables from the garden. 

Have you ever wanted to make your own yogurt?  The Kitchen at CitySeed presents “Get Fermented! Yogurt & Kefir in New Haven” on Thursday May 19 at 5:30pm.  Participants will learn easy ways to make probiotic rich yogurt and kefir (drinkable yogurt) with basic supplies.  Guests will participate in making each recipe and take a jar of each home to ferment at the end of class.  It is $45 per person. 

Mid-Fairfield County’s chapter of Dress for Success Mid-Fairfield will hold their annual “Toast to Success” fundraiser at the Westport Inn on Wednesday May 17.  There will be a wine tasting as well as a fashion show and silent auction.  Tickets are $45 per person and can be purchased by calling 203-610-8570 or email aellis@workplace.org.  

Thursday, May 19, the Westport Farmers’ Market (WFM) will kick off the 2016 summer season, celebrating fresh, local food and the community that supports us.  WFM has blossomed into a market that boasts 45 vendors, food trucks, chef demos, yoga, organic eats, children’s programming and even a pizza truck.   Join the market at noon to toast local food with organic green juice donated by The Stand.

The Trumbull Farmers Market opens on Thursday May 19!  

Ordinary in New Haven also has special events planned for Craft Beer Week.  They’ll start off with the New Haven debut of Firestone Walker Brewing Company.  On Thursday, they’ll have a Black Hog tap take over.

The first ever Gathering at the Bines Beer Festival will take place at Two Roads on Saturday May 21.  Enjoy beer from 30+ breweries, the Cluster Truck™ food truck hub, live music, and more.  $35 ticket gets you unlimited 3 oz pours and entrance. DD tickets are available as well.

Learn all about organic vegetable farming at Natureworks in Northford, CT.  On Saturday May 21, Sue Lavallee from Coast of Maine Organic Products will lead an informal seminar that will cover 4 types of soil, the till vs. no-till method of gardening, helpful gardening tips, and more.  Call to reserve: 203-484-2748. 

The 9th Annual Asparagus Festival will take place at White Silo Farm & Winery from May 21-22.  They’ll prepare small dishes from their freshly picked asparagus.  Guests can taste wine and listen to live music as well.  Admission is free.  From there, food items are $5-6 per plate and wine tastings are $7. 

Spring Meadow Farm in Milford invites you to an “Evening of Brazilian Barbecue and Horseback Riding.”  From 5-8:30pm, guests can enjoy a Brazilian Barbeque Dinner, fire pit, and activities and contests with horses.  Prices are $225 per couple or $125 per person.  Call to reserve your spot: 203-877-4784.
