Celebrate Bastille Day w/ Ávert Brasserie's Steamed Mussels Recipe & A Party

Ávert Brasserie in West Hartford is celebrating Bastille Day with a festival Abounding with French cuisine, musique, dance, and myriad attractions for the whole family. This farm fête populaire invites locals to revel in the flavors, sounds, and joie de vivre of France!

If you would like to host your own Bastille Day party, here is their great recipe for Steamed Mussels with Mustard, Curry and Cream. Yum. Check it out below. 

Avert Brasserie Mussels Recipe

1 lb Prince edward island mussels

1 diced shallot

2 TBSP diced celery

1 cup white wine

1 tsp curry powder

1 pinch saffron

2 TBSP heavy cream

1 tsp dijon mustard

1 tsp black pepper

Sauté the shallots and celery in canola oil until tender. Add white wine and cook for 1 minute. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil, once boiling add mussels. Cover the pot and steam until open, approximately 1 minute. 

Bastille Day Celebration

Avert Brasserie will be celebrating Bastille Day on July 14th by hosting a Festival at Sub Edge Farm in Farmington / Avon (199 Town Farm Rd. Farmington, CT 06032) from 4 to 8pm

Tickets will be available on Eventbrite and at the door. Tickets will be $45 per adult, and $20 for Children under 12.  A Portion of all proceeds will go to End Hunger CT! Event Details will be posted this week on Facebook.

Ticket includes a taste of wines, beer, cocktail, hors d’oeuvres cheese, charcuterie, chocolate and baguette.

A BIT OF HISTORY......Bastille Day is the common name given in English-speaking countries to the French National Day, which is celebrated on July 14th each year. In France, it is formally called la Fête nationale (The National Celebration)

The French National Day commemorates the Storming of the Bastille on 24 June 1789, a turning point of the French Revolution, as well as the Fête de la Fédération which celebrated the unity of the French people on 14 July 1790. Celebrations are held throughout France. The oldest and largest regular military parade in Europe is held on the morning of 14 July, on the Champs-Élysées in Paris in front of the President of the Republic, along with other French officials and foreign guests.

WINE TENT .....Taste France’s most prestigious champagnes and roses at tasting tables presented by World Wide Wines. Indulge in fine European chocolates  and cheeses,  savor hors d’oeuvres from Avert Brasserie.

KRONENBURG TENT.....French beers from Kronenbourg, including 1664 Euro Pale Lager and 1664 Blanc Witbier,  all paired with a selection of French cheeses, House made charcuterie, and Hartford Baking Co. baguettes.

PERNOD / LILLET / CHARTREUSE TENT......French Liquors will be offered as tastings and made into cocktails by the DORO Restaurant Groups Mixologists.  paired with Moules Frites and Crepes.

ENTERTAINMENT.....We will have French street performers including Mimes and Live Music.  We will have 4 Official Petanque Courts set up.
