Nibble: CT Food Events for Week of July 23-30

Join James Beard Award winner Chef Jeff Michaud at Terrain Garden Cafe in Westport, as he hosts a dinner celebrating our summer favorite – rosé! Enjoy a cocktail hour followed by three-courses highlighting dishes from Chef Michaud’s cookbook, Eating Italy: A Chef’s Culinary Adventure, each one paired with a glass of rosé. To prepare for their opening in Darien, Blue Wave Taco, (205 Boston Post Road in Darien) is giving away free chicken tacos (one per person per car) from the drive-thru window this Wednesday, July 26 from 5pm to 8pm. One lucky visitor will walk away with a free taco every day for a year!!!

On Wednesday July 26, Sugar and Olives will teach you how to make Sweet Summer Sauces.  From 7-9pm, discover how to create Caramel three ways, a berry sauce, a peach melba, and a hot fudge sauce.  Tickets are available online for $80 each. 

Geronimo Tequila Bar & Southwest Grill in Fairfield now serves lunch.  Join them Monday-Friday from 11:30am-3pm.  The new menu features items for a quick meal and will be offered alongside the full all-day menu.  Please note this is only available at the Fairfield location.

Join 95.9 the FOX and First Thing Fairfield County with Ken Tuccio for the 95.9 the FOX First Thing Breakfast Tailgate Friday July 28 at El Segundo.  Chef Carlos Baez from El Segundo, Chef Angel from The Blind Rhino, and Stratford’s Chef Carol Koty will cook up breakfast.  There will also be beer, game, and live music.  The show will broadcast live from 6-10am and the Tailgate will go from 10am-1pm!  Best of all, it’s FREE! 

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar will celebrate Wine and Cheese day on July 25.  Starting at 5pm, taste an assortment of fine wines alongside cheese inspired appetizers for $45 per person.  Call 860-676-WINE to reserve.

b Simsbury (formerly known as Plan B Burger Bar) is celebrating 10 years!  To thank the community, they are taking the prices back to 2017 with an Old School Happy Hour all day on Thursday.  Specials include $2 minis and retro drafts, $3 house wine, and $4 well drinks.  Old School menu options include Three Cheese Fondue, Meatball Crock, Rock Shrimp, Ultimate Cheese Burger, and Fish & Chips, plus classic cocktails the Pom Pom, Nice Mangoes, and Grape Kool-Aid.

Meanwhile, b Fairfield is debuting a “Lighter Lunch Menu.”  They will now serve a Quinoa Grain Bowl, Local Bibb Salad, B.L.A.T. Chopped Salad, and an Organic Grilled Veggie and Hummus Wrap Monday-Friday from 11:30am-3pm.

The First-Ever Sun Tequila Tasting comes to Mohegan Sun on Friday July 28.  From 8-11pm, visit mixology and margarita bars, sample an array of tequilas, and partake in Mexican inspired foods.  There will even be a DJ and a photo booth.  Tickets are $85 per person with a portion on sales going to Southeastern CT United Way. 

Chop Shop Summer Cooking Classes continue on Friday July 28 with “Gone Fishin.”  Learn to make Sesame Crusted Tuna Tacos with Pineapple Salsa and Wasabi Cream; Seared Scallops with Fennel, Grapefruit, and Cukes; Summer Shellfish Bouillabaisse with Tomato and Basil Rouille; and Seared Halibut with Gremolata and White Beans.  It is $80 per person and runs from 7-9pm.  

The Greater New Milford Chamber of Commerce hosts the 50th Annual Village Fair Days on Juy 28 and 29.  The 2 day festival includes entertainment, bingo, bouncy houses, a food court, and almost two hundred vendor and community booths. 

East Norwalk Blue is commemorating its first season with an Oyster Bar Fundraiser hosted by Norm Bloom & Son Oyster Company on Saturday July 29.  There will be food, drinks and a raw bar as well as a hands-on oyster shucking and grilling demonstration.  It will take place from 5:30-7:30pm and additional information on tickets can be found online. 

Do you love ice cream?  On Sunday July 30 head over to Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford for “Scooper Sunday.”  In addition to the Yard Goats’ baseball game, there will be all-you-can-eat ice cream supplied by local farms, stores, and creameries! The event will benefit the mental health promotion and suicide prevention programs of the Jordan Porco Foundation. 

Butchers & Bakers in Farmington now serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-3pm.  From crepes to omelettes to pizza, there are plenty of tasty menu options.  The 21+ crowd can enjoy a Bloody Mary Bar, Sangria, and Brunch cocktails. 

Taste of Hartford Restaurant Week continues through July 30!  Participating restaurants throughout the Greater Hartford area, like Capital Grille, Coyote Flaco, On20, and Ted’s Montana Grill, will offer special multi-course, price-fixed menus.
