Nibble: CT Food Events for Week of July 30-August 6

Elm City Social will host a Tiki Cocktail Contest on Monday July 31 at 6pm.  The best cocktail can win $500, with second and third place earning $300 and $100 respectively.  To register, email dan@elmcitysocial.com. 

El Segundo has made Monday industry night!  All day, industry peers can enjoy free tastings and 20% off the entire bill.

Two of NBC’s Team Ninja Warrior champions, Allyssa Beird and Joe Moravski, edteam up with b.good Fairfield and Food Rescue US (Formerly Community Plates) to rescue fresh, reusable food from local grocery stores and deliver it to soup kitchens and shelters in the area.  On Tuesday August 1, b.good will air the video of the rescue at an all-day fundraiser benefitting Food Rescue US.  On that day 5% of retail sales at will be donated to FRUS, and b.good will announce an offer to provide free kids meals (one per purchase of adult entrée) for the rest of the summer until school begins.

Every Wednesday through August 16, visit Cask Republic in South Norwalk for Bingo!  It is $5 to play, with the proceeds going to charity.  There will be prizes and drink specials as well.  Join them from 6:30-8:30pm.

Tickets are now on sale for the Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust’s Farm to Table Dinner & Auction on August 27.  The event will take place at the Van Vleck Farm & Nature Sanctuary in Woodbury. Get ready to test your taste buds at Mory’s Tavern in New Haven!  On Thursday August 3, they will challenge you to a blind tasting of Sauvignon Blancs from around the world.  Do your best to identify where in the world they come from while feasting on a menu of Seared Octopus, Arugula & Endive Salad, Sliced Cumin Seared Tuna, and Sauvignon Blanc Tossed Summer Berries with Whipped Cream.  Tickets are $89. 

The DORO Restaurant Group is teaming up with Sub Edge Farm for a farm dinner series.  They kickoff on Thursday August 3 with chefs from Artisanal Burger Company and beer from NEBCO, BEER'D, Counterweight, and New Park.  There will also be local meat from Broad Brook Farm and organic produce and eggs from Sub Edge Farm.  Tickets are $75.

Get ready to lace up your sneakers… the Craft Brew Races returns to New Haven on Saturday August 5!  Participate in a 5K run/walk and then attend a craft beer festival at Edgewood Park featuring samples from 30+ local and regional breweries.  (Beer festival-only tickets are also available.)

On Sunday August 6, attend a “Whole Hog Pickin' Extravaganza Farm Dinner Fundraiser” hosted by Killam & Bassette Farmstead, LLC.  Chef Van Hurd of Taino Smokehouse will prepare a meal using ingredients from the farm while NoRA Cupcake uses the farm’s homemade jams to make dessert.  There will also be music by John Maze, hayrides, wine tastings, SoG Coffee, Farmers Cow drinks, and more.

Mark your calendars… Taste of Westport has been announced for 2018!  It will take place on May 3, 2018 at the Westport Inn.  The event will benefit CLASP Homes, an organization that creates and supports family environments for people with autism and intellectual disabilities.

Tickets are on sale for the Stamford Museum and Nature Center’s Fall Farm to Table Supper.  On September 24, Matt Storch, Chef and Owner of Match Restaurant in South Norwalk, will create a beautiful meal inside the Bendel mansion.  There will also be a preview of the museum’s upcoming exhibition, Illustrations of Imaginative Literature: The Korshak Collection.
