Restaurant Coffee Stamford Breakfast Lunch Sandwich Openings Winfield Street Coffee Opens in Downtown Stamford at The Ferguson Library Andrew Dominick November 05, 2019 Downtown Stamford just received a jolt of caffeination with the grand opening of Winfield Street Coffee at The Ferguson Library. This third branch of Winfield Street—Westport and Croton-on-Hudson are the other two—will serve up the goods that the brand has become known for under owner Breno Donatti, starting with expertly made lattes, cortados, espressos, cappuccinos, and high-quality drip using Counter Culture Coffee. Other fanciness comes in the form of turmeric, charcoal, or matcha lattes, house-made strawberry oat or chocolate almonds “mylks,” healthy smoothies, or you can treat yourself to a cup of hot cocoa T.M.F. style with a heaping scoop of toasted marshmallow fluff on top. A focal point of the room is the live plant wall and neon scripture. 10/10 it ends up making your Instagram. There’s food, too. Those familiar with the original Winfield Street in Norwalk remember it as a deli, and in part, it’s still that. Donatti, who bought the ages old deli years ago, made sure to keep a variety of sandwiches on the menu. Porchetta with garlic mayo, the “Mutza” (fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, EVOO, sea salt, basil), and an original Winfield sandwich, the “Proper Combo” (prosciutto, smoked ham, capicola, mortadella, salami, soppressata, provolone) are notables. Winfield’s menu wraps up with plenty of vegetarian friendly choices, protein packed snacks, a half dozen different bowls, pastries and donuts from JJ Cassone Bakery, waffles, and all-day breakfast sandwiches, toasts, and bagels. But it’s not just about food! As we mentioned in the first part of 2019, Winfield Street Stamford serves multiple community purposes. They’ve partnered with Domus, an organization that helps at risk youth by providing academic support, social-emotional skill building, and personal and practical connections so they can overcome the odds stacked against them and find a successful path. The partnership has resulted in five Domus kids as full-time employees, all of whom received a free coffee education at Counter Culture’s training program in New York City. Additionally, Winfield Street is making 100 extra rolls every morning from 5:00 – 5:30 a.m. to feed the homeless, UCONN students will get free drip coffee during final exam weeks, and all surplus food will be donated to Food Rescue US.Because Winfield Street is a tenant of The Ferguson Library, it will be open seven days per week for all your java and sandwich needs. Plus, they’ll also be an avid supporter of library events by providing catering, a book club (or other) meeting space, and it’ll often be a showcase for local art. Coffee, community, and tasty sandwiches is a combo we can really get behind. Winfield Street doesn’t serve or sell beer, but there’s a mysterious mini fridge that might catch your eye. There’s a beer trade program limited to 30 or so people. Leave a beer, take something that strikes your fancy. Pretty cool.
