Stephanie Webster

WMHC, the network of the Westport Museum for History and Culture in partnership with CT Bites presents:

The History Happy Hour  in support of the hard-hit Connecticut restaurant industry.  This weekly series offers you fun history you can drink to via the talents of Connecticut’s best bartenders and mixologists. Please support their establishments   Today’s cocktail is the Buzzed Bee, Jesup Hall Westport’s take on the Bee’s Knees, a popular Prohibition-Era drink,  In 1920 the Volstead Act made it illegal to produce or consume alcohol in the United States. During this Prohibition Era, underground bars called “speakeasies” sold homemade liquor called bathtub gin.  Sweet and sour drinks like The Bee’s Knees were popular and disguised the harsh flavor of the gin.  And now The Buzzed Bee a variation of The Bee’s Knees created by Jessup Hall Westport’s general manager, Branden Hahn.   Thanks for joining us for this week’s episode of The History Happy Hour – where you can raise a glass to the past.  Join us next week when we highlight “The Flip”, an 18-century drink by Craig Ventrice, formerly of The Whelk Westport.
