For most of human history, cooking over an open fire was the only way to cook a meal. Now, fire is just one technique in a chef’s culinary toolbox, but is one whose process and taste feel nostalgic, beautiful, and pure. Enter the master of all things FIRE, Chef Dan Sabia, who established Wood Fire Food catering and events in 2018 with a desire to cultivate deeper connections between food producers and eaters by blending his passion for design, Argentinian open fire cooking, community, and localized food, to transform the dining experience. His mission has always been to create an immersive and interactive experience where diners cultivate connections to their food, the chef, and each other. And now Chef Sabia is taking it one step further. In the Covid era, where events and live cooking classes have been all but eliminated, and indoor dining remains at reduced capacity, Sabia is bringing a new dining experience to CT, with all the comforts of HOME. Wood Fire Food is now hosting private events throughout CT that feature both an immersive cooking class and instruction, followed by a sit down dinner for as few as 3 people or as many as 15. Sabia says" The biggest thing that was lost with Covid is comfort, and hospitality is nothing without comfort. There is a sterility in our current dining experiences. I’ve always wanted to bring an extension of my home to everyone else. You provide the backyard. We come with the fire.” Having been on the receiving end of a Wood Fired Food event, they are beautiful to watch, and the flavor that comes from cooking over an open fire is uniquely delicious. Sabia will drive to your house fully equipped with mini grills, a full pantry for the cooking class portion of the evening, as well as a curated wine list. Together, you will create a 3-4 course meal, with tons of great cooking tips along the way. Guests will explore the unique tastes of different vinegars and discover why a specific apple tastes better for a specific recipe. “We cook all together and then we sit down all together,” says Sabia. He also includes postcards with the evening’s recipes so you can attempt them in the future. Beautifully curated biodynamic, sustainable wine pairings are part of the experience, and he offers cocktails with an up-charge. Sabia is all about having people try something different, and he will likely introduce you to some pretty cool labels you’ve never seen previously…and all of this in the comfort of your home. Sabia says, “All I need is a table and a backyard. I’ll do the rest.” These private events/cooking classes will cost you $200 a person. If you would like to schedule one of these AT HOME events, track down Chef Sabia via one of the methods below.
