The Daily Cafe & Eatery Opens In Greenwich from Aux Delices' Debra Ponzek

After opening Aux Delices and making the eatery a household name in Fairfield County, why wouldn’t Debra Ponzek want to open a new cafe to accommodate the busy shoppers, commuters and local Greenwich residents with the perfect place to grab a quick bite?

Located in the heart of Greenwich Avenue, Daily Cafe and Eatery serves the Greenwich community seven days a week with healthy grab-and-go breakfast and lunch items, made with fresh ingredients. While there is something for everyone on this menu, those seeking vegetarian dishes will be pleased to find a wide variety of veggie based options.

“We live in Greenwich and it is definitely an area and neighborhood that we know well,” Ponzek said. “It makes it a little bit easier, especially for a new concept, to go into a market that you already know. In a way, we have Aux Delices as our prior research because it is fairly close.” 

Aside from its convenient location, Daily Cafe and Eatery offers a wide variety of breakfast and lunch foods. The cafe places an emphasis on vegetarian options but ensures that palates of all kinds will be adequately satisfied. 

“We definitely wanted to go a little vegetarian heavy, because it is sort of the way the world is moving towards,” Ponzek said. “But we didn’t want to be so exclusive, we still hope there could be something for everybody. We even have things for kids like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and grilled cheese.” 

The menu features a wide variety of unique food options like their ‘Spicy Cauliflower’ sandwich, or Ponzeks favorite, the ‘Mushreuben.’ However, the menu also provides some “basic” options like a classic croissant and a freshly brewed cup of coffee. 

“We realize that we have to be aware of our market,” Ponzek said. “We do not want to be excluding any groups, tastes and appetites.”

One stand-out breakfast item is the ‘Veggie Bagel’ which takes a unique twist on the classic bagel with cream cheese. This dish includes a toasted whole wheat bagel with avocado cream cheese, tomato, sprouts and cucumber. This dish allows for an easy and delicious way to get your veggies in for breakfast. 

But if you are in the mood for something a little sweeter, the cafe offers freshly baked pastries ranging anywhere from the indulgent chocolate croissant or a mild golden raisin scone. 

Instead of a classic waiter-to-table restaurant, The Daily Cafe and Eatery offers pre-made sandwiches, salads and baked goods to be enjoyed and heated up if asked. Additionally, a large coffee and tea bar is open for customers’ use, along with various types of milk and sweeteners. 

Although there are many options on the avenue, The Daily Cafe and Eatery strives to offer the most convenient grab and go options and delivers each dish with passion and pride. 

“[My favorite thing about being a chef and cafe owner is] the challenge of creating food and being a part of the community,” Ponzek said. “It feels nice to know, people who are coming in and out, are eager to try our new creations. As a chef that is very rewarding.”
