Guide to Kids Cooking Camps & Classes (2024 Edition)

Hannah Goodman

Spring is right around the corner and summer will be here before you know it, so why not stay ahead of the game and take advantage of the many kids cooking classes and camps being offered all over Connecticut? There’s nothing quite as important as your children’s diet. Each of these courses will teach them about nutrition, kitchen safety, food preparation, different types of cuisines, and how to make food and cooking fun. Every child is creative in their own right, so let these culinary chefs help foster their creativity and you may just have someone cooking for YOU…and let’s be honest, that would sure be a nice change.

AMG Catering - Wilton

https://amgcatering.com/kids-cooking-camp-2024/

AMG Catering has lots of exciting cooking opportunities for kids this spring and summer. They are offering 2 consecutive weeks of the “Young Chef’s Academy” for your young CIT or “Chef in Training.” Each week is a unique, four-day hands-on kids cooking camp where the “CITs” will be exploring American regional cuisines, global cuisines, farm to table, current food trends, street foods, grilling and many other culinary delights each day at camp. Menus are planned according to what’s in season and available, so they will be working with and learning about seasonal, fresh food. They also like to collaborate with our campers on what they want to learn each day. In other words…let the food teach itself! On the last day of each camp week, there will be a fun cooking competition! There will be no duplicate recipes weeks 1 and 2, so why not register for both weeks? Note: The kitchens are *not* food allergy free kitchens. Nuts, shellfish, etc are used frequently. Some of the dishes may contain dairy, seafood and/or nuts. For ages 12-15. Camps are limited to 14 campers so claim your spot soon. Both weeks are open for registration now.

Sprout Chefs - Darien

www.sproutchefs.com

Lisa Nelms has years of experience with kids from preschool to middle school. She is a certified teacher who began cooking with her students as a way to teach them how to read and follow directions. Her classes, in-home cooking birthday parties, and camps emphasize the art and science of food in an entertaining and fun way. Fresh, seasonal ingredients are used. Mixed-ages (5-12 years old) work together. The oldest Sprout Chefs are matched with the youngest to serve as each other’s sous chefs. Together the class prepares a family-style meal shared around one table. This creates a sense of community. Each class ends with a think tank for the next class to encourage the confidence to bring their own ideas to the table. All classes are different, depending on interests, abilities and new ideas shared. Occasionally mistakes are made, and that’s ok. That’s how we learn! Hopefully the Sprout Chefs will leave understanding how food not only feeds bodies but can nurture minds and spirits, too.
