Nibble: CT Food Events for Week of October 8-15

On Monday October , Stew Leonards Newington will have a “P” is for Pumpkin Culinary Class for Kids. Kids ages 6-12 will prepare homemade pumpkin oatmeal cookies, pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, and pumpkin cinnamon sugar donuts. They’ll even paint a pumpkin to bring home. $30 per child.

October 11 is Ladies Night Out at Sport Hill Farm! Join them for an evening of female farm fun featuring honey inspired light bites, casual conversation, and henna tattoos (temporary!). BYOB. The event runs from 7:30-9 pm and costs $28 per person.

Stony Creek's annual Docktoberfest will unfold on October 13. They're turning the brewery into a German Beer Garden with live music, games, food trucks, and beer!

Fairfield Restaurant Week returns October 8-14. More than 30 restaurants throughout Fairfield are participating with special fixed price lunch and dinner menus.

On Tuesday October 9, Manchester Community College will be hosting Taps & Tapas, a fundraising event that will include small plates of gourmet food prepared by the culinary students of Manchester Community College. Craft beer will be provided by Labyrinth Brewing Company. The event will take place at MCC's Culinary Arts Center. All proceeds will go directly to Foodshare, a regional food bank that serves both Hartford and Tolland counties.

Summer Soiree dinners with Chef Geoff Lazlo continue on October 11. Dinners take place at Millstone Farm and start at 6pm with a custom craft cocktail and passed canapés. Next, enjoy a three course dinner. The event is BYOB.

The Fig Cooking School in Milford presents a “ Viva Italia” cooking class on October 11. The menu includes Baguette with Creamy Gorgonzola and Fig Jam, Mesclun and Arugula Salad with Pinot Grigio Vinaigrette & Parmesan shavings , Cannelloni with Besciamella Sauce, and a Torta Sbrisolona.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Waterbury is proud to present the Brass City Wine & Food Fest, which will be held at Mattatuck Museum on Thursday October 11 from 6-9pm. The evening will feature an opportunity to taste 9 wines paired with foods from 3 distinct regions – Italy, France and Spain.

The Essex Steam Train and Dinner Cruise presents the "three B" cruise with Beer, Bratwurst, and Beautiful fall foliage on the Connecticut River. Join them on October 11th for a 2 hour cruise where you can enjoy craft beers and a buffet of brats with all the fixin’s. Guests receive a special gift bag with an engraved beer glass as a memento.

On Friday October 12, Chop Shop Cooking presents Dim Sum Delights. The menu includes Mandarin Pork Dumplings with Hoisin Sauce, Shrimp Toast, Crab Wontons with Sweet & Sour Sauce, and Spicy Chicken Yuzu Gyoza. www.chopshopcooking.com

Fairgate Farm’s annual Harvest Festival at 129 Stillwater Avenue in Stamford will feature face painting, a kid’s craft table, live music, food samples, cornhole toss, and a scavenger hunt. Check it out from 10am to noon on Saturday October 13.

The Hubbard Park Fall Food Truck Fair in Meriden returns October 13 and 14. There will be Food Trucks, local vendors, kids’ entertainment, live music, and more.

On Saturday 10/13 at 7pm, Trackside Teen Center of Wilton hosts an Oktoberfest celebration. It will include delicious German food and traditional Oktoberfest beverages. This is a 21 and over event. https://www.trackside.org/oktoberfest

Designs by Lee, located on Interlaken Road, will host a Fall Festival on October 14. The fun family afternoon will include hayrides, a pumpkin patch, pumpkin painting, face painting, a bounce house and more. B.GOOD, is rolling out its Fall seasonal menu! New seasonal items include: Butternut Soup, 4-Bean Chili, Roasted Butternut Salad, The Green Chile Burger, Lucy Blue Smoothie, and the Apple Bacon Bowl (Available 10/17).

As of November 30th, Holbrook Farm will be changing ownership and closing its doors until April. They will stop ordering new inventory on most items, but maintain certain essentials like milk and bread until the end of October. They will continue to harvest what they have. They are selling some of the farm’s supplies including furniture and some of their adorable farm animals.
