CTbites was recently invited to a special media tour of the The Idea House. The incredible Lidia Bastianich was in attendance on behalf of Clarke Kitchen Appliances in Norwalk (where she films her show, Lidia’s Kitchen)…the company who outfitted the Idea House’s kitchen with Sub-Zero and Wolf Appliances.

That day, Lidia was kind enough to sign a copy of her book for one of our readers. May the biggest Bastianich fan win. Good luck!  

If you’re unfamiliar or if you missed the public tour in late September, the Idea House, located just outside of Downtown New Canaan, is a renovated 1800’s Greek Revival, fully-loaded with every modern technology feature one could only dream about. See-through fireplaces, a rock-climbing wall (in one of the bedrooms no less!), a car lift in the garage, heated floors, Bluetooth mirrors, an outdoor kitchen…you get the gist of it. At a listing price of $3.575 million, this five bedroom, 5.5 bathroom is only an idea for some of us, but just in case, here’s that listing.

Obviously, the Idea House’s amenities go beyond what’s listed here, and that’s no surprise given that it’s a collaboration between the television show This Old House, Karp Associates, and CAH Architecture. 

In addition to a Q&A, and a three-course lunch of Lidia’s recipes cheffed up by Marcia Selden Catering, Bastianich spoke about her new book, My American Dream: A Life of Love, Family, and Food, her personal tale of how her family fled to Trieste from the communist annexed Istria, how they eventually ended up in America, and her culinary journey after she arrived in New York.
