FreshDirect, the Northeast’s leading online fresh food grocer, announced that it will be extending its service further into Connecticut, and will now be delivering to Fairfield, Norwalk, Southport, and Westport, in addition to Greenwich and Stamford, starting Tuesday March 26th. Why is this exciting? For those not familiar with FreshDirect, they pioneered the short supply chain, so you can experience fresh food at its finest. Place an order online before 9pm, and you can have ALL of your groceries delivered to your house the following day. From responsibly sourced seafood to organic produce, their food comes to their campus straight from the source and is delivered to your door at peak freshness in just a few days. That's less handling by middlemen—and it puts more money in the bank for local farmers, skilled artisans, and responsible fishermen.

I spoke with Ryan Fibiger (Remember this guy? He launched Fleisher’s Craft Butchery in CT, and knows a good piece of meat when he sees it.) Fibiger is FreshDirect’s VP for B to B, and is one of hundreds of self proclaimed “food nerds.” Fibiger says “You don’t need to pick out your own apple. Trust us to pick the right apple, because we are really all just a bunch of food geeks.” The team at FreshDirect is passionate about sourcing and the quality of the food you order online. For some of us, it’s tough to hand over the reigns on selecting that perfect mango or tenderloin. “But I’m going to pick the most amazing cut of steak you’ve ever seen,” says Fibiger. “It’s hard to properly convey our obsession with food.”

FreshDirect is perfect for those of us who are short on time, but still want great locally sourced product, along with all of our basic grocery needs. Plus, you don’t have to order days in advance. With only 24 hours notice, you can have anything you need. Plus, no one is squeezing the avocado 40 times that you just put in your cart. Short supply time makes for better ingredients. From Meal Kits to freshly foraged ramps and black truffles, FreshDirect is good news for Fairfield County.

What happens with those slightly imperfect apples, you may ask. Good news. All unused food goes to City Harvest to feed the hungry in our communities.

To celebrate the Company’s first expansion since moving to its new Campus, FreshDirect is offering free delivery to new customers in the month of March and will also be offering great values on new products and the fresh food the company is known for during the month.
