Westport Farmers’ Market Summer Season Starts May 23rd!
Mark your calendars for the start of the Westport Farmers’ Market on Thursday, May 23rd, from 10 to 2 at 50 Imperial Avenue. Whether you are on a break from work, have a day off with kids, or are meeting a friend to shop, this season’s market has something for everyone. “We work hard to make the Westport Farmers’ Market a weekly destination for the community,” said Lori Cochran-Dougall, Executive Director. “We’re really excited with the result this year! We’ll have all of the vendors and activities that people love plus some new vendors and programs to add to the mix.”
Opening day promises to be food and fun-filled with music by the ever-popular Henry Jones (who has been known to serenade kids with a sweet rendition of Itsy Bitsy Spider), and a special sparkling-kombucha toast from OM Champagne Tea at noon to kick off the best season yet.
A few tempting highlights include: our Chef at the Market competition is back, more great competitors and comradery as the area’s best compete for the title of WFM Chef at the Market; Get Growing, our weekly youth activity program, has a packed and innovative calendar so bring your little ones to learn, create and enjoy. We will also have additional lunch seating and we’ll have weekly rotating local musicians to brighten our days.
Why not consider starting out the season by becoming a Friend of the Market? The market will have new bags available at the information booth for $40 and – in exchange – every vendor promises a discounted item. You could make back your investment in one day while supporting the hard work of farmers and makers.
“The Westport Farmers’ Market continues to blossom into a place that celebrates the best in fresh, local food, and all that goes into cultivating and creating it,” said Cochran-Dougall. “Thanks to the thousands of shoppers from all over Fairfield County and beyond, the WFM boasts nearly 50 vendors, food trucks, chef demonstrations, children’s activities, music, and more. It has become a destination for families, friends, and co-workers to meet, as well as the source for weekly food for the kitchen.”
