Westport History Museum is running a GINGERBREAD making contest!! Get out the frosting and the gumdrops and enter your gingerbread version of the Bradley-Wheeler House, Westport Museum’s headquarters—or a Westport historic building of your choice. Entrants may also do a gingerbread version of their own home too. Prizes vary by category. Winners will announced on December 12th at 2 pm by Santa Clause at the Museum’s outdoor Winter Market. Chef Avi from Roia New Haven has launched a Fall Virtual Cooking Series, comprised of three classes!.This cooking series will focus on teaching/improving your cooking skills and techniques. We will be locally sourcing our ingredients including some from our friends at Muddy Roots Farm. Purchase the whole series and get a free bottle of wine. A la carte classes may also be purchased. Guests will learn: Sautéing and Poaching, Roasting and Blanching, Braising and Making Vinaigrettes. Each class will start with a cocktail demonstration! You will receive all the necessary ingredients to make these meals wonderful cooking experiences for you and your significant other or to enjoy as a family. The kits provided will be for two people. All of the pick-up's will be on the Friday prior to the class from 5-7 p.m. at ROÌA Restaurant.

Please help fill the fire truck with food, turkeys, gift cards and money for the FAITH Food Pantry at The Big Y, Newtown on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 9 AM EST – 2 PM EST. Volunteer firefighters from Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue, Newtown Hook & Ladder and Hawleyville Fire will be out collecting. Volunteer firefighters from Botsford and Dodgingtown companies will be collecting in Sand Hill Plaza.

The Hartford Restaurant Group‘s (HRG) newest addition, the Enfield Wood-n-Tap restaurant, opens Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21. The new restaurant, located in the Big Y Plaza at 55 B Palomba Drive, includes a 7,500-square-foot indoor dining area that seats 220. The site also features an 8,000-square-foot patio with outdoor dining space and a bar area. As its other locations, the newest Wood-n- Tap will features a classic American menu including burgers, steaks, salads, pasta, tacos and  chicken wings, as well as an extensive cocktail, wine and beer choices. The grand opening for the public at-large is slated for Nov. 25.

The historic landmark 1754 House now features a local craft beer selection to its Restaurant and Tavern’s menu. Neighboring Woodbury Brewing Company has partnered with 1754 House’s owner, Chef Michael Bates-Walsh to create an ale collection with native flavors.

PSA: The alumni of Martin Van Buren High School in Queens Village is raising money with a collaborative digital cookbook. The proceed of the cookbook go to support students’ families in need — in partnership with CommonPoint of Queens, a social service organization — through a digital cookbook: “Comfort Food From Around the World: Recipes by Students, Staff, Alumni and Friends of MVB.” The global collection of 168 recipes includes one from the chef Yotam Ottolenghi, and can be downloaded for free, though there is an appeal for donations.
