Great news for fans of the outrageous donut bakery, Donut Crazy, and Chef Matt Storch's MatchNom Eez. Donut Crazy will be opening this week in the old Steam Coffee spot at the eastbound side of Metro-North’s Westport station in Saugatuck. Donut Crazy, founded by Jason Wojnarowski will offer coffee, tea, espresso, and an assortment of grab n go dishes  provided by Match and Nom Eez restaurants. Here's the concept; give the people what they want...coffee in the morning, and quick delicious takeout for hungry commuters arriving bleary eyed at the end of the day.

Sourcing from local companies such as Arethusa Dairy and organic Shearwater Coffee (a Connecticut favorite), Donut Crazy will offer Nitro Cold Brew and Arethusa Milk on tap (!) as well as a selection of espresso-based hot drinks.

Storch's grab and go case will include signature dishes from both Match and nom-eez and it will be filled every day with a rotating menu.  Keep a look out for the following…Pho, Wonton Soup, Nom-eez famous ginger salad, Par-baked match pizzas, Seared Tuna, Meatballs, Osso Bucco, Wood Roasted Half Chickens, Coconut Braised Pork Shanks, Wood Roasted Fish, Eggplant Parm, and China Ribs. All of this food can be reheated easily at home or the office.

For those uninitiated into Donut Crazy’s world of over-the-top sugary doughnut confections, this location feels like a giant step forward both in selection and ambiance. All of their baked goods are made in-house in a Donut Crazy Kitchen by an overnight team of bakers. In Westport, Donut Crazy will offer its typical selection of “Dailies” and “Crazies.”

The "Dailies" are a selection of about 25 familiar doughnut offerings ranging from the Boston Creme, Powdered Jelly, Chocolate Glazed, and Pumpkin Cake (my daily favorite), to the slightly more trendy, Matcha Frosted anyone? These are $1.95 each.

The “Crazies,” at $3.25 each, are where the overnight crew clearly has some fun in the kitchen, with a core selection of favorites as well as few seasonal rotating flavors of 15 or so inspired doughnuts. At their size and assumed calorie count, they are also ideal for sharing, or a meal replacement. No ingredient seems off-limits when you consider the Salted Caramel Pretzel, the Cannoli, and (my “crazy” favorite) Black Hawk (a chocolate glazed cake donut topped with chocolate icing, crushed cookies and cream drizzled with more chocolate).
