Nibble: Tasty & Boozy CT Food Events for September 29-October 6

On Friday October 4, HAPA's Chef Chris Gonzalez, SoNo 1420 craft distillery, and Ria Rueda of Bread & Butter Marketing are teaming up to bring you the first ever Kamayan style dinner to celebrate Filipino American History Month.  A kamayan meal is a communal feast served family-style eaten with a large group of friends, featuring a variety of Filipino dishes served on banana leaves over rice and eaten with your hands.  A $75 dinner includes 2 cocktails, dinner, and dessert. 

116 Crown is celebrating its 12th anniversary!  Join them on Saturday October 5 at 6pm for a cocktail hour, seasonal dinner, bocce, and live music.  Return on Sunday October 6 for a “Family Happy Hour” featuring pumpkin painting, cocktails, and more.  

Washington Prime in SoNo kicks off their fall/winter wine series with a Caymus Wine Dinner on Wednesday October 2.  The five course pairing dinner kicks off at 7pm with limited seating.  Reservations can be made by calling (203) 857-1314 or by visiting the restaurant.   

Wakeman Town Farm welcomes Darlene B for a Caribbean Cooking Class on Thursday October 3 from 7-10pm.  Learn to make Coconut Shrimp, Coconut Rice & Peas, Jerk Pork Tenderloin with Mango Chutney, and Rum Cake with Orange Glaze. 

Stony Creek's annual Docktoberfest will unfold on October 5. They're turning the brewery into a German Beer Garden with live music, games, food trucks, and beer!

The Barn Restaurant in Granby hosts a Patio Party with Alvarium Beer Company on Thursday October 3.  From 5:30-8:30pm, partake in tasty bites and brews for $30 per person. 

German food and brews!  Live music by the Polka Brothers! Stein-holding and bratwurst-eating competitions!  Stone Acres Farm’s Oktoberfest on Saturday October 5 has it all.  $10 entry fee with food and beverages available for purchase.

Let’s TACO-bout October 5!  The Connecticut Taco Festival comes to New Haven with plenty of tacos and drinks by Corona and Modelo.  There will also be kids’ activities, crafts, local vendors, music, and more.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. 

Charter Oak Brewery in Danbury hosts an Oktoberfest Cornhole Tournament on Saturday October 5 from 12-5pm.  Bring a partner or pair up in singles to try your hand at this classic lawn game, all will enjoy some refreshing local brews.  Tickets are $40. 

Friday October 4 @ Noon, head out to Sport Hill Farm for “Lunch in the Loft “ at the Farm during Harvest Season. Enjoy a fall festival of flavors with Annie McClelland of First Bite Catering for a lunch featuring Sport Hill Farm fresh produce. $30 per person.

Terrain’s first Autumn Bounty Festival will take place in Westport on Saturday October 5 from 11am-4pm.

Wood-n-Tap Farmington hosts a Grand Opening celebration on Saturday October 5.  Choose from 2 sessions: 4-7pm and 8-11pm.  Get a glimpse of the new location before it opens to the public and enjoy food, wine, beer, and music.  Proceeds from this event will be donated to Farmington High School Project Graduation for the class of 2020. 

Saturday October 5 is PRIDEtoberfest at Troupe429 in Norwalk.  The free event features plenty of drinks, food, and live performances. 

2019 marks Warrup’s Farm’s 35th Harvest!  Commemorate the occasion with them in Redding on Saturday October 5 from 4:30-8:30pm.  Begin the evening with hors d’œuvres in the historic farmhouse and explore the grounds.  Then, catch a hayride to the barn for a feast of savory plant-based dishes from the farm garden.  Hayrides will then return guests back to the parking area.  Tickets are $85.

The 1st Annual PAC Block Party will take place Sunday, October 6 from 2pm-5pm at The Green at National Hall in Westport.  The family-friendly community event will feature appetizers from OKO, bartaco and The Meatball Shop as well as gin drinks from TUCK Gin.  The event is being organized by Push Against Cancer (PAC) and is dedicated to raising funds for The Hole in the Wall Gang (HITWG) Camp, a non-profit founded by beloved Westporter and award-winning actor Paul Newman in 1988 to provide “a different kind of healing” to seriously ill children and their families.  Tickets will be available for purchase onsite at the event - $40 per adult and $10 per child (under age 12). Adults aged 21 and over will receive 2 drink tickets per admission with additional drink tickets available for $5 each. 

After their success in 2018, The Friends of Fairfield Public Library announced that the Fairfield Food Truck Festival will take place on Sunday October 6 at Jennings Beach from 11am-6pm. Admission is $5 per adult while children under 12 are free.  The trucks will charge their normal food prices. All proceeds will benefit the Fairfield Public Library.

The 12th Annual New England Chowdafest takes place Sunday October 6 from 11am-3pm!  Thousands of chowder fans will again descend on Sherwood Island State Park to sample and cast votes for their favorites in four categories.  This year’s Chowdafest will feature over 30 extraordinary restaurants, half of which are new to the event!  New to the New England clam chowder category is 21 Lake Restaurant of Danbury, Cove Deli & Cafe of Norwalk, Hub & Spoke of Black Rock Bridgeport, Redding Roadhouse of Redding and Smithsonian Chowder House of Massachusetts.  http://www.chowdafest.org/
